Accessibility Frequently Asked Questions
Where are you located and how accessible is arrival?
We are located in a rural part of Dorset on the Isle of Purbeck. The setting is peaceful and scenic, but public transport options are limited compared with towns and cities. There is however a bus stop immediately outside the property for the number 40 route that connects Swanage through to Poole, via Wareham.
Parking is on-site in our courtyard and car park areas, which include gravel surfaces. We are happy to advise the most suitable parking spot based on your needs and proximity to your room or event space. We can also assist with luggage, please request at time of booking or on arrival.
What is the ground and pathway access like?
As a historic countryside property, surfaces vary across the site. Some paths are level, while others may be uneven, gravelled, or affected by weather conditions.
There are thresholds and surface changes in some buildings and outdoor areas. Guests with wheelchairs, mobility scooters, or balance concerns are encouraged to speak with us in advance so we can advise the easiest routes and most suitable areas.
Do you have step-free access?
Some areas of the property can be accessed without steps, while others cannot due to the age and layout of the buildings.
Because routes differ depending on which room or space you are using, we recommend contacting us before booking so we can explain the best available options and be clear about any limitations.
Are all bedrooms accessible?
Our bedrooms are located across different parts of the property and vary in layout, size, and access routes. Some rooms involve stairs and others are closer to parking and more level approaches. Bathroom layouts also vary between rooms.
We have two bedrooms that are adapted with accessibility features including grab rails and more accessible bathroom layouts. Suitability will still depend on individual needs, so we recommend contacting us to confirm whether these rooms are the right fit.
If you tell us your requirements — such as minimal steps, shower preferences, or proximity needs — we will recommend the most suitable available rooms.
Is your website accessible?
We are working to make our website as accessible and user-friendly as possible. If you experience any difficulty accessing information online, please contact us and we will provide details in an alternative format.
Do you welcome assistance dogs?
Yes — assistance dogs are welcome. Please let us know in advance so we can ensure appropriate room allocation and support during your stay.
Can you support guests with dietary requirements or allergies?
Yes — we cater for a wide range of dietary requirements and allergies. Please let us know your needs when ordering or booking so we can ensure the safest and best possible preparation.
Can you support sensory or neurodiverse needs?
We understand that guests have different sensory and comfort needs. Where possible, we can:
- Recommend quieter rooms or seating areas
- Offer lower-stimulation spaces when available
- Allow a little extra time or flexibility around check-in or dining where operationally possible
Advance notice helps us provide the best support.
Do you provide accessibility or mobility equipment?
We have a small number of accessibility aids on site, but we do not carry a full range of specialist mobility equipment. If you require specific items such as wheelchairs, walkers, bathing aids or daily living supports, we recommend arranging these in advance.
A local specialist supplier is Purbeck Mobility in nearby Wareham, who can advise on equipment hire and purchase options. We’re happy to coordinate delivery timing with you where possible.
Please contact us before arrival if you plan to bring or hire equipment so we can recommend the most suitable room and access routes.
